Liquid sulphur is an elemental sulphur product with an average total sulphur (S) content of 80%, which corresponds to 200% when expressed as SO3 (sulphur trioxide). As the pure, micronised form of the sulphur element found in nature, liquid sulphur is of great benefit to farmers on suitable agricultural land. Contrary to popular belief, the liquid sulphur used for soil improvement is formulated on the basis of its S content, not SO3. It can therefore help lower soil pH and reduce salinity and lime.
Benefits
Liquid sulphur, which helps prepare the soil for agricultural production, does not damage greenhouse covers, so it can be used both in open-field production and in greenhouse cultivation. The application rate depends on the pH and structure of the soil. The benefits of liquid sulphur are as follows:
- It increases the frost resistance of plants.
- Where the difference between day and night temperatures is high, plants are less affected by it.
- It can be used both before and during planting, and can be applied at all stages of development.
- It is effective against fungi that occur on roots and leaves.
- It helps to adjust the pH of the soil.
- Liquid sulphur is one of the few products that can be used in organic farming, so it also makes soil improvement possible in organic production.
- It reduces the lime content and salinity of the soil in a short time.
- It helps crops mature in a shorter time.
- It makes it easier for crops to take up nutrients from the soil: phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, plus trace elements such as iron, cobalt, manganese and zinc.
- It keeps many pests away from crops.
- It supports vitamins H and B1.
- Because liquid sulphur is in elemental form, it is four times more effective than forms of sulphur such as sulphate.
- Sulphur is a building block for the synthesis of amino acids, coenzymes, enzymes and proteins, so plants develop healthily with sulphur support.
- It is part of the enzymes involved in photosynthesis and respiration, so it supports these processes.
